Her World - Celebrating Mothers Day
San Lorenzo invites you into a quiet moment between mother and child where childhood curiosity meets the deep, steady presence of a mother who holds far more than what is seen.
Mothers hold many worlds at once, each one unseen, each one alive through care, presence, and devotion.
The emotional world of the child is full of feeling, wonder, and intensity. The mother’s own inner world is shaped by memory, responsibility, and quiet strength. The world of the family is woven through daily acts of care, rhythm, and belonging. And the wider living world, the land, the sea, the air, and all life that moves within it.
A mother also holds the unseen world of emotion, where comfort is created, where fear is softened, and where a child first learns what safety feels like. She holds the spiritual world in the simplest of ways through presence, connection, and the quiet awareness that life is more interconnected than it appears. And she holds the physical world too, through the daily acts of nourishment, protection, and care that shape the foundation of a child’s life.

Even while holding many worlds at once, a mother’s deepest care always rests in the world of her children.
It is a story about the connection between mother and child, self and nature, body and spirit, and the living world itself—and in the act of holding these worlds gently, mothers are also teaching what it means to belong to them.
She is showing her child how to live inside them with care and connection.
“Holding these worlds gently” refers to all the layers a mother carries at once: her child’s emotions, her family’s needs, her own inner world, and even the wider natural world around her. She doesn’t treat them harshly or disconnect from them; she holds them with steadiness, awareness, and care.
“Teaching what it means to belong to them” means that through how she lives, the child learns how to exist in the world too.
So instead of being told through words, the child learns through experience:
★ If the mother is calm with emotions, the child learns emotions are safe to feel.
★ If the mother respects nature, the child learns they belong to the land and sea.
★ If the mother stays connected to herself, the child learns they also belong to their own inner world.
★ If the mother nurtures relationships, the child learns they belong in community and family.

This is a conversation between a four-year-old girl and her mother, set by the ocean, where land, sea, and sky seem to move as one living breath. In this space, everyday questions open into something much larger, and through their dialogue we are gently guided into a way of seeing the world that is both tender and ancient.
As the child begins to ask simple, honest questions about matching clothes, feelings, connection, and why grown-ups move differently through the world the mother responds with a kind of remembering.
In this telling, motherhood is not only a role, but a way of holding space. It is the capacity to carry multiple worlds at once without breaking them, while still returning again and again to love, presence, and connection.
This is a reflection on motherhood as a living balance between the inner and outer, the seen and unseen, the personal and collective, the human and the natural. It speaks to how children experience life in full emotional colour, and how mothers quietly hold everything together through presence alone.

“Mama, why do you always look at me like that when we go to the beach?” The little girl stands barefoot in the sand, holding her mother’s hand, her matching swimsuit slightly crooked from running.
Her mother smiles softly. “Like what, my love?”
“Like you’re… remembering something.”
The mother pauses for a moment, watching the waves roll in and out, like they’ve been doing long before either of them arrived.
“I think I am,” she says gently. “I’m remembering how small this time is. And how big it feels while we’re inside it.”
The girl tilts her head. “What do you mean small?”
“That you will not always be this little,” her mother says, brushing sand from her daughter’s shoulder. “Not always reaching for my hand like this. Not always wanting to wear the same things as me.”
The girl looks down at their matching outfits. “But I like it when we match. It makes me feel like we’re the same.”
Her mother kneels down so they are eye level. “That’s because connection feels like safety. When you see yourself in me, and I see myself in you, your heart knows we belong together.”
The girl thinks about this. “Do you feel that too?”
“All the time,” her mother answers. “That’s why I look at you like that. Because you are not just my child. You are part of everything I am building without even trying.”
“What are you building?” the girl asks quickly.
Her mother smiles at the question, like it’s a beautiful one.
“A world,” she says. “Not with bricks or walls. With how I speak to you. How I hold you when you cry. How I listen when you talk about nothing and everything at the same time.”
The girl’s eyes widened. “You build a world?”
“Yes,” her mother nods. “That’s what mothers do. We are emotional architects. We build the feeling of home.”
The girl looks out at the ocean. “Is the ocean part of our world too?”
Her mother follows her gaze. “Everything is part of it. The land, the sea, us, other people. In some ways, nothing is separate. Everything is connected, even when we forget.”
The girl kicks the sand gently. “Sometimes I feel everything is really big. Like really, really happy or really, really sad.”
Her mother’s voice softens. “That’s because you feel deeply. You haven’t learned yet to hide your feelings behind busy thoughts.”
“Do you hide yours?” the girl asks.
Her mother hesitates, then smiles honestly. “Sometimes I forget how to feel them fully. I get tired. I get busy. I start thinking I have to just keep going.”
The girl steps closer. “But you don’t have to with me.” Her mother goes still for a moment, then wraps her arms around her.
“I know,” she whispers. “And that’s the most important reminder I could ever have.” A wave rushes in and touches their feet.
“Mama,” the girl says suddenly, “when we wear matching clothes, is that like… saying something?”
Her mother laughs softly. “Yes. It is saying we belong together. Without needing words.”
“I like that,” the girl says proudly.
“I do too,” her mother replies. “Because you won’t always need me in the same way you do now. One day, you’ll grow and your world will stretch further than mine.”
The girl looks up quickly. “But you’ll still be my mama, right?”
“Always,” she says. “But what we build now will stay inside you. The feeling of being loved. Of being safe. Of being seen.”
The girl nods slowly, absorbing it in her own way.
“So what do we do now?” she asks.
Her mother stands and takes her hand again. “We stay here. We feel the sand. We listen to the ocean. We take our time enjoying this moment together.”
The girl smiles again, squeezing her hand tighter.
“When I hold your hand, I remember what it means to hold the world. Out of all the worlds I have to hold, you will always be the most important one to me.”
